Become a PMI Member

PMI membership is optional, but it can be useful for PMP® candidates and for professionals preparing for other PMI certifications. You do not have to be a PMI member to apply for PMP® certification, but many candidates choose membership because it gives access to PMI resources, member pricing, learning opportunities, and the global project management community.

PMI membership is separate from PMP® certification. Becoming a PMI member does not automatically make you certified, does not replace the PMP® application, and does not remove the need to meet PMI’s eligibility requirements. It is an additional professional membership that can support your certification journey and long-term development.

One of the most practical benefits for certification candidates is member pricing. PMI members may receive discounted pricing for certifications, certification renewals, learning products, and events. If your main reason for joining is the PMP® exam fee discount, review the current prices on PMI.org and complete your membership before paying the exam fee.

PMI membership can also give you access to useful professional resources, including digital PMI standards such as the PMBOK® Guide, webinars, templates, tools, eLearning opportunities, PMI publications, career resources, and community activities. These resources can support both your exam preparation and your ongoing professional growth.

Be careful not to confuse PMP® eligibility training hours with PDUs. Before PMP® certification, you must meet PMI’s required project management education or training requirements. After you become certified, PMI webinars and learning activities may help you earn PDUs to maintain your certification.

Membership fees, discounts, and included benefits may change over time and may vary by membership type. Before joining, open the official PMI membership page and check the current membership options, prices, and benefits.

After you become a PMI member, return to KnowledgeMap and mark this step as completed in your certification process.
