Complete the PMP® Certification Application

After confirming that you meet the PMP® eligibility requirements, the next step is to complete your official PMP® certification application through PMI’s online certification system.

Before starting the application, make sure you have a PMI.org account and that your contact details are correct. PMI will use this account and email address for application updates, audit communication, payment confirmation, and exam scheduling instructions.

What to Prepare Before You Apply

Prepare the information you will need to document your education, training, and professional project experience.

You should have the following details ready:

  • Education information — school or university name, degree or diploma, field of study, and dates attended.
  • Project management training — the name of your training provider, course title, completion date, and number of eligible project management education/training hours.
  • Professional project experience — project titles, organizations, project dates, your role, project objectives, outcomes, and your responsibilities in leading and directing project work.

For each project, prepare a short description that explains the project objective, your role and responsibilities, the project work you led or directed, and the project outcome.

Do not describe routine operational, administrative, school, or personal activities as project management experience unless they clearly meet PMI’s definition of professional project work. PMI expects professional experience that shows your role in leading and directing projects.

PMP® Training Certificate

If you complete your required PMP® training through KnowledgeMap, you can generate your training certificate from your KnowledgeMap profile after meeting the course completion requirements:

Use this certificate as evidence of your project management education/training hours when completing your PMI application or if PMI requests supporting documentation.

How to Complete Your PMP® Application

Go to the official PMI PMP® certification page and start the application process through your PMI.org account.

When completing the application:

  1. Select the PMP® certification.
  2. Enter your education information.
  3. Add your project management training details.
  4. Describe your professional project experience.
  5. Review all information carefully before submitting.
  6. Submit the application for PMI review.

Do not submit the application until your information is complete and consistent. Make sure project dates, experience descriptions, training details, and contact information are accurate.

After your application is approved and the certification fee is paid, PMI will send you eligibility information for scheduling the exam.

Be Ready for a Possible Audit

PMI may select applications for audit. Before submitting your application, make sure you can verify your education, training hours, and project experience if requested.

Audit documentation may include copies of your diploma or degree, signatures from supervisors or managers who can verify your project experience, and certificates or letters confirming your project management training.

If your application is selected for audit, you will need to complete the audit process before continuing with certification steps.

After submitting your PMP® application, return to KnowledgeMap and continue with the next step in your certification process.
