Schedule Your PMP® Test Appointment

After PMI approves your PMP® application and your exam fee is paid, you can schedule your PMP® exam appointment through Pearson VUE.

If your application was selected for audit, complete the audit process first. You can schedule the exam only after PMI confirms that your audit is complete, your payment is processed, and your PMI Eligibility ID is active.

Your PMI Eligibility ID is included in the scheduling notification from PMI and is required to book your exam appointment. In some cases, your eligibility record may take up to 24 hours to appear in the Pearson VUE system. If you cannot schedule immediately after payment, check your myPMI dashboard and try again later.

Choose Your Exam Format

PMI allows candidates to take the PMP® exam either at a Pearson VUE test center or as an online proctored exam from home or office, where available.

Choose a test center if you prefer a controlled exam environment, a dedicated testing workstation, and in-person check-in support.

Choose online proctored testing only if your computer, internet connection, identification, room setup, and personal environment fully meet Pearson VUE’s OnVUE requirements. Online testing is convenient, but it requires more preparation and stricter control of your testing space.

If you requested exam accommodations, wait until PMI approves them before scheduling your appointment. Some accommodations may limit the exam delivery options available to you.

If You Choose a Pearson VUE Test Center

When scheduling a test-center appointment, select your location, date, and time in the Pearson VUE system. Not all PMI exams are available at every test center, so check available locations and seats before choosing your appointment.

Before scheduling, make sure your first and last name in your PMI.org profile, Pearson VUE booking, and identification documents match exactly. If your name needs to be corrected, contact PMI before scheduling or as early as possible before exam day.

For a test-center appointment, follow the identification policy shown in your Pearson VUE confirmation. Under Pearson VUE’s Global ID Policy, candidates may be required to bring one primary ID and one secondary ID. Your primary ID should be original, valid, government-issued, and include your first and last name, a recent recognizable photo, and your signature. Your secondary ID should also match your first and last name and include either a signature or a recent recognizable photo.

If You Choose Online Proctored Testing

Before booking an online appointment, run and pass the OnVUE system test on the same computer and network you plan to use on exam day.

Your setup must meet Pearson VUE’s current online testing requirements, including:

  • Windows 10 or macOS 14 or higher.
  • Working webcam, microphone, and speakers.
  • One display screen only.
  • Stable internet connection.
  • Ability to close all applications except OnVUE.
  • A quiet private room where you remain alone.
  • A clear desk and testing area with no prohibited materials.

Online proctored testing is available only when permitted by PMI and Pearson VUE policies for your location, identification, and exam program. Always check the current Pearson VUE requirements before choosing this option.

On exam day, begin check-in 30 minutes before your appointment. Be ready for technology checks, ID verification, photos, and a room scan. If your computer, internet, ID, or testing space does not meet the requirements, your exam may be canceled and your fee may be forfeited.

After Scheduling Your Exam

After scheduling your PMP® exam, save your confirmation email, appointment details, PMI Eligibility ID, exam date, time, delivery format, and Pearson VUE instructions.

You normally have a one-year eligibility period to take the PMP® exam, and you may attempt the exam up to three times during that period if needed. Retake fees may apply for second and third attempts.

Schedule only when you are reasonably confident about your date and time. Rescheduling or cancellation close to the exam date may result in fees or loss of the exam fee. If you need to change the delivery type, such as from test center to online proctored testing or from online to test center, you may need to cancel the existing appointment and schedule a new one.

After scheduling your exam, return to KnowledgeMap, mark this step as completed, and update your preparation plan based on your exam date.
